Beach MNT Falls to Switzerland in Opening Match of 2024 El Salvador Beach Soccer Cup

COSTA DEL SOL, El Salvador (March 28, 2024) – The U.S. Men’s Beach Soccer National Team fell 5-0 to Switzerland in the opening match of the 2024 El Salvador Beach Soccer Cup.

Switzerland received goals from Tobias Steinemann and Noel Ott in the first, before Jerome Kofli, Michael Rodrigues and Glen Hodel found the back of the net in the second.

Guided by interim head coach Ian Carry, the USA utilized six players from the 2024 World Cup squad. Additionally, forward Sasha Karlov started in his Beach MNT debut, while 2021 World Cup squad members Jason Santos and David Mondragon, as well as  Mikel Palmerin earned their first appearances after lengthy spells away from the team.

NEXT UP: The Beach MNT will look to bounce back against hosts El Salvador on Friday, March 29 (10 p.m. ET; ESPN3).

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

  • Defender Nico Perea captained the Beach MNT for the fourth time.
  • Two-time World Cup defender Jason Santos earned his 63rd cap and first Nov. 6, 2022 vs. Japan.
  • Fellow two-time World Cup veteran David Mondragon made his 37th career appearance and first since Aug. 23, 2021 against Paraguay at the 2021 Beach Soccer World Cup in Moscow.
  • Forward Mikel Palmerin gained his seventh career appearance and first since May 18, 2014 vs. Germany.
  • Forward Sasha Karlov started in his debut for the Beach MNT.
  • The USBMNT moves to 0-3 all-time against Switzerland.
