The U.S. Soccer Player of the Year award is the highest honor awarded to soccer players in the United States. The Male and Female Player of the Year awards are the oldest and most prestigious awards of their kind, dating back to 1984 for the men and 1985 for the women. The Young Male and Young Female awards were added in 1998 and Player of the Year with a Disability in 2012.
Votes are collected from Men’s, Women's and Youth National Team head coaches and staff, National Team players who have earned a cap during the calendar year, Major League Soccer, North American Soccer League, United Soccer League and National Women's Soccer League head coaches, as well as select former players, administrators and media members.
