Carla Overbeck is known as much for her leadership as she is known for her contributions on the field with the US Women’s National Team (USWNT). As captain of the USWNT (’93-’00), she led the 1996 Gold Medal Olympic Team and the 1999 World Cup Championship Team. Overbeck has been lauded for her leadership by former teammates and coaches, and continues to lead with over thirty (30) years of experience as a college coach at Duke University. She is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Nominees for the award are accepted annually during the call for nomination period and can be sent for consideration by anyone. Once the nomination period closes, the list of nominees, along with the submitted information will be reviewed by USSF staff as well as the Nominating Governance Committee. The recipient will be recognized and celebrated at the Awards Dinner at our Annual General Meeting.
