Guatemala City, Guatemala (April 29, 2025) – The U.S. Women’s Futsal National Team utilized a historic hat trick from Sarah Martin, as well asbraces from debutants Kierson Korienek and Ashley Henderson to earn a dominant 7-0 win against Honduras in the opening match of the 2025 Concacaf W Futsal Championship on Tuesday at DomoPolideportivo.

With the win, the USA (1-0-0; 3 pts.) sits first in Group B heading into Matchday Two against Costa Rica, who beat Canada 3-2 earlier Tuesday. The Futsal WNT will face La Ticas on Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET (Concacaf YouTube).

FIRST HALF

The USA found the first goal just over two minutes into the half. After receiving the ball on the right, Carlie Banks hit a first-time effort that clanged off the post and out to Jeanette Fieldsend just inside the midfield line. She touched forward and found Sarah Martin on the left, who one-timed her effort inside the lower right corner to open the scoring.

After some sustained U.S. possession, the second goal came less than a minute later. A nifty move from Banks down the left helped the U.S. fixo beat her mark before centering for Martin who slotted home her second from the penalty spot with 16:49 remaining in the first.

The U.S. continued to control the flow of things and grabbed its third goal off a corner kick through two players making their international debuts. After earning the opportunity, Kiersen Korienek laid a low restart from the right for Henderson who unloaded a first-time rocket past Nelly Bustillo and into the top right corner for her first career goal with 11:35 remaining.

The USA was good for one more with just under a minute left in the first half. Korienek joined Emanuelly Ferreira in a coordinated high press, which saw a clearance ping off Ferreira’s leg and to the Michigan Tech product. Korienek collected and moved down the sideline before hitting a blinding effort that beat Bustillo to bag her first career goal and make it 4-0 with 59 seconds left.

SECOND HALF

With a 4-0 lead, U.S. head coach Diego Burato inserted Martha Lord in goal to begin the second half, and while the early going was more subdued, the USA got a fifth with about 13 minutes remaining. Some sustained possession led to Henderson hitting a hard effort from outside the arc, which deflected off a Honduras defender and straight to Korienek, who slyly backheeled the ball over the line from close range for her second of the match.

The first hat trick in Futsal WNT history came 90 seconds later as Jordan Felton found enough space on the left to cross for Martin who coolly placed her third of the match home to give the U.S. a 6-0 lead with 10:59 remaining.

A seventh goal came with just over five minutes remaining and it was Henderson who started and finished the play. She began with a kick in at midfield, where she played it back to Felton and advanced up the field. Felton hit a penetrating ball to Paige Pierson at the top of the arc, who laid off a pass for Henderson in stride before the attacker powered her second home to make it 7-0 with 5:17 left.

With the U.S. firmly in control, a power outage with three minutes remaining held off the inevitable result a little longer. After the lights returned, Burato’s side saw out the match to open the tournament with a comprehensive 7-0 win.
