24 Players Called Up for U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team Training Camp in Los Angeles

CHICAGO (March 26, 2025) – Twenty-four players have been called up to the first U.S. Under-23 Women’s National Team training camp of 2025 running from March 31-April 7 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif., as U.S. Women’s National Team head coach Emma Hayes continues a philosophy of more emphasis on this age group, a push that started with the “Futures Camp” last January in Florida.

The Futures Camp featured a 24-player roster of players all age-eligible for this year’s U-23s – which are players born on or after Jan. 1, 2002 – and this roster has 11 players who were at the Futures Camp. In addition, three players who were at the Futures Camp – defender Avery Patterson, midfielder Claire Hutton and forward Michelle Cooper – are with the senior USWNT that will also be training at DHSP during the week in preparation for matches against Brazil on April 5 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, Calif., and on April 8 at PayPal Park in San Jose, Calif.

The U-23 camp will be led by Lisa Cole, who is the lead WNT Player Pathway scout under Hayes. Both assistant coaches are also female in Heather Dyche, the head coach at the University of New Mexico, and current Orlando Pride assistant coach Yolanda Thomas. The goalkeeper coach will be Louis Hunt, a long-time U.S. YNT GK coach who was on the staff of the San Diego Wave for three seasons.

While Hayes will not run the camp, she and her staff will be observing the U-23 training sessions during the week.

“Emma has repeatedly said that we need to put more emphasis on this age group, giving young pros and elite college players more playing opportunities in a national team environment and more chances for these top young players to play with and against each other,” said Cole. “And with both the U-23 and the WNT camps happening at the same time at the same training site, both coaching staffs can observe both sets of players, everyone can get a close-up look at what these camps are like and really feel what is needed to perform at the international level. It’s a great opportunity for the players and the coaches.”

Additional Notes:

• The roster features 18 professional players, one player who is currently unattached, and just five college players. Two of the pro players – defender Eva Gaetino and midfielder Abi Brighton – play in Europe at Paris Saint-Germain in France and Juventus in Italy, respectively.
• Three players – all defenders -- have seen training time with the full USWNT in Gaetino and Angel City FC’s Savy King and Gisele Thompson. Thompson earned her first two senior team caps during the 2025 SheBelieves Cup while King was a training player during that tournament.
• The 11 players on this roster who were also at the 2025 Futures Camp in Florida in January are defenders King, Emily Mason, Makenna Morris, Lilly Reale and Thompson, midfielders
• Taylor Huff, Riley Jackson and Yuna McCormack and forwards Maddie Dahlien, Jameese Josephand Reilyn Turner.
• The roster features players from four different birth years – 2002 through 2005.
• Eight players have represented the USA in the FIFA Women’s World Cup at the youth level: King, Mason, Reale, Thompson, Jackson, McCormack Dahlien and Makenna Morris.
• Midfielder Sally Menti, who attended Santa Clara and who signed with the Seattle Reign, was on the USA’s 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Team but tore her ACL before the tournament started.
• The professional players on this roster come from 10 different NWSL clubs and two European clubs. All the NWSL players on the roster are in their second year in the league or have just begun their rookie years.
• King, Thompson, Jackson, McCormack and Dahlien were all a part of the U.S. team that took third at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
• Dahlien scored twice in the World Cup and also created the Netherlands own goal that won the Third-Place Match. She also set up the dramatic equalizer against Germany in the quarterfinal that capped a legendary comeback in which the USA scored in the 97th and 98th minutes to tie the match, then won in penalty kicks after overtime.
• Of the five college players on the roster, two are goalkeepers.
• The three field players from the college ranks are Evelyn Shores from reigning NCAA champion North Carolina, McCormack, who recently transferred from UVA to Florida State, and Amelia Van Zanten, who is also a Seminole. Van Zanten won a U-15 Concacaf title with the USA in 2018 on a squad that also included Gisele Thompson, Shores, McCormack, Alyssa Thompson and Jaedyn Shaw.
• Mason and Reale played in the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.
• Caiya Hanks, who is a rookie with Portland Thorns FC out of Wake Forest, is a rare call-up from the state of Hawaii.
