Twenty-Two Players Gather for U-16 MYNT Training Camp in South Florida

Gonzalo Segares Leads Training Camp for 2008-Birth Year Players That Will Compete at Next Year’s 2025 Concacaf U-17 Championship

CHICAGO (April 13, 2024) – The U.S. Under-16 Men’s Youth National Team will gather in West Palm Beach, Fla. from April 14-19 for its first training camp of the year and second of the cycle.

Gonzalo Segares has called up 22 players to the training camp as this group of players will transition to become the U-17 MYNT later this year and attempt to qualify for the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar at the 2025 Concacaf U-17 Championship.

Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2008 are age-eligible for this one-year U-16 MYNT cycle and 21 of 22 players called to camp were born in 2008. Forward Mathis Albert is the lone player born in 2009. Next year’s Concacaf U-17 Championship and FIFA U-17 World Cup will also feature players born on or after Jan. 1, 2008.

The roster features players from 13 Major League Soccer clubs, including four from Real Salt Lake and two each from LA Galaxy, New York Red Bulls, San Jose Earthquakes and Sporting Kansas City.

Seven players represented the U.S. at the 2023 Concacaf Boys’ U-15 Championship in the Dominican Republic, helping the USA take home its first title in three appearances at the tournament.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • In total, 14 clubs are represented on the roster. In addition to the 13 MLS clubs, midfielder Jack Mize plays at German club Borussia Dortmund.
  • The U-16 MYNT held its first training camp of the cycle last November in Carson, Calif. Nine players return from the fall: Sebasthian Chavez, Camron Estala, Pedro Guimaraes, Jamir Johnson, Luca Maxim, Owen Pratt, Tanner Rosborough, Cristiano Oliveira and Gio Villa.
  • The seven players who helped the U.S. win its first Concacaf Boys’ U-15 Championship last summer are Chavez, Guimaraes, Johnson, Luca Moisa, Pratt, Rosborough and Villa.
  • Forward Chance Cowell is the younger brother of USMNT/U.S. Men’s Olympic Team forward Cade Cowell.
