U.S. U-16 Boy’s National Team Splits Pair of Matches against Argentina and Uruguay

Five Different Players Tally Goals Over Two Matches

The U.S. Under-16 Boys’ National Team split its two matches against Argentina and Uruguay during its international camp from May 17-27. The team fell to Argentina 4-1 in its first match but bounced back with a 4-0 blanking of Uruguay in its second match. Five different players tallied goals for the team across both matches.

 On May 22, the USA got off to a quick start against Argentina in Buenos Aires. Malik Jakupovic opened the scoring in the sixth minute to give the U.S. an early 1-0 lead.

The team held on to that lead until the 20th minute, when Argentina’s Simon Escobar equalized. Marcos Ortiz added another goal in the 27th minute, before Bruno Celan (62nd minute) and Patricio Delgado (83rd) added two goals on the other side of halftime to help Argentina claim a 4-1 victory.

The USA bounced back following their loss to Argentina by blanking Uruguay in a 4-0 win on May 27 in Montevideo.

It took 21 minutes before the U.S. struck first thanks to Roko Pehar. Paul Sokoloff doubled the lead just before the half with a goal in the 41st minute.

Aaron Medina added insurance early in the second half, tallying a goal in the 48th minute. Then Darris Hyte finished the scoring in the 90th minute by converting a penalty kick.

Goalkeeper Paul Abbott walked away with an impressive clean sheet, making four saves to keep Uruguay off the scoresheet.
