  • The Starting XI averages 13 caps.

  • The USA lineup represents clubs in seven different countries: Germany (3), Belgium (2), USA (2), Austria (1), Italy (1), Portugal (1), Spain (1)

  • Weston McKennie captains the USMNT for the second time tonight. The 22-year-old midfielder previously wore the armband against Mexico in the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup Final.

  • Seven starters are age 23 or younger: Cannon, McKennie and McKenzie (22), Sargent (21), Aaronson and Dest (20), Reyna (18)

  • Goalkeeper Ethan Horvath earns his fifth cap tonight and first since the 1-1 draw against Chile on March 26, 2019 in Houston.

  • John Brooks and Mark McKenzie will partner together for the first time in central defense. Making his 41st appearance, Brooks is the most-capped player in the Starting XI, while McKenzie is the least with three caps.  

  • Brooks is also the only player in the Starting XI to have appeared against Switzerland, going the full 90 minutes in the 1-1 draw on March 31, 2015 in Zurich.

  • Members of the 2014 FIFA World Cup team, DeAndre Yedlin and Julian Green are on the bench and count make their first USMNT appearances in some time. Yedlin last appeared in the 4-0 Nations League win against Cuba on Nov. 19, 2019, while Green last played in the 3-0 defeat to England on Nov. 15, 2018.

  • Three players on the bench could make their USMNT debuts: defender Justin Che, forward Matthew Hoppe and goalkeeper David Ochoa.

  • With the USMNT dressing 23 players, midfielder Tyler Adams, forward Daryl Dike, defender Bryan Reynolds and goalkeeper Chituru Odunze are not in the squad tonight. Six substitutions will be allowed.

  • The match against Switzerland represents the sixth time the USMNT will face a Top 20 opponent since Berhalter became head coach in 2019.

  • The USMNT is 1-3-4 all-time against Switzerland and 1-1-2 on Swiss soil.

  • The lone win of the series came on Oct. 17, 2007, when Michael Bradley’s late goal handed the USMNT a 1-0 victory in Basel.

  • The teams also met in their opening match of the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Eric Wynalda’s 44th minute free kick pushed the USMNT to a 1-1 draw at The Silverdome in Pontiac, Mich. The result gave the team its first point at a FIFA World Cup since 1950.

  • Tonight’s match comes nearly 31 years to the day of when the USMNT and Switzerland met in their final warmup match prior to the 1990 FIFA World Cup, also in St. Gallen. Bruce Murray scored the lone goal for the U.S. as Switzerland won 2-1.

  • Gregg Berhalter is 17-5-3 in 25 matches as USMNT head coach.
