GAME NOTES

  • U.S. MNT Starting XI Cap Numbers (including this match): Tim Ream (41), Weston McKennie (21), Matt Miazga (20), Zack Steffen (19), Tyler Adams (12), Reggie Cannon (12), Sergiño Dest (5), Uly Llanez (3), Nicholas Gioacchini, (2), Yunus Musah (2), Gio Reyna (2)

  • Today’s Starting XI has an average age of 22 years, 154 days, which is the second youngest USMNT lineup of all-time after the team that faced Italy on Nov. 20, 2018 (22 years, 71 days).

  • The Starting XI averages 12 caps.

  • Gregg Berhalter makes four personnel changes to the USMNT lineup from Thursday’s match against Wales: Tim Ream and Reggie Cannon slot in on the back line, while Nicholas Gioacchini and Uly Llanez start up front.

  • Additionally, Sergiño Dest switches from right to left back.

  • The USMNT features an all-European based XI for the first time since the 2-0 Gold Cup quarterfinal win against Jamaica on June 19, 2011 in Washington, D.C.

  • The Starting XI represents clubs in eight different countries: England, Germany and Spain (2 each), Belgium, France, Italy, Netherlands and Portugal (1 each).

  • For the second straight match, the USMNT will start players who feature in each of Europe’s top four leagues: Tim Ream and Zack Steffen (English Premier League); Weston McKennie (Italian Serie A); Sergiño Dest and Yunus Musah (Spanish La Liga); Tyler Adams and Gio Reyna (German Bundesliga)

  • Yunus Musah will become the first USMNT player to start multiple matches before the age of 18. Set to turn 18 on Nov. 29, the Valencia midfielder will also become the fourth USMNT player to appear in multiple matches before voting age: Christian Pulisic (8 in 2016), Bobby Convey (2 in 2000-01) and Poli Garcia (2 in 1975).

  • Tim Ream captains the USMNT for the seventh time tonight. The veteran defender has worn the armband more than any other player under Gregg Berhalter.

  • Matt Miazga and Tim Ream partner in central defense for the second time. The former New York Red Bulls pair previously worked the 7-0 Concacaf Nations League win against Cuba on Oct. 11, 2019 in Washington, D.C.

  • Earning his 12th cap, Tyler Adams starts consecutive matches for the first time in more than two years – the 2-0 loss to Brazil (Sept. 7, 2018) and 1-0 win against Mexico where he scored the lone goal on Sept. 11, 2018.

  • Adams and Weston McKennie will work the midfield together from the start for the sixth time tonight.

  • After making his debut off the bench against Wales, striker Nicholas Gioacchini starts his first match for the USMNT tonight.

  • With their starts, Reggie Cannon and Uly Llanez will have appeared in all three matches this year. Should Sebastian Lletget come off the bench, he would join them.

  • Llanez also has the USMNT’s only goal of the year. The Lynwood, Calif. product scored from the penalty spot in the team’s 1-0 win against Costa Rica on Feb. 1 in Carson, Calif.

  • Defenders Miazga and Cannon both went 90 minutes and helped keep the clean sheet in the last meeting with Panama, a 1-0 win to close out the Gold Cup group stage on June 26, 2019 in Kansas City, Kan.

  • Tonight’s game marks the first time the USMNT has faced a Concacaf opponent in a neutral site friendly match outside of the region.

  • The match marks the third-straight year the USMNT will play a neutral site match in November. The team fell 1-0 to Italy in Genk, Belgium on Nov. 20, 2018 and defeated Cuba 4-0 in George Town, Cayman Islands on Nov. 19, 2019 in the Concacaf Nations League.

  • Gregg Berhalter holds a 12-5-3 record as USMNT head coach and is 2-0-0 against Panama.

  • Los Canaleros were the opponent for his first match on Jan. 27, 2019 in Glendale, Ariz. Djordje Mihailovic, Walker Zimmerman and Christian Ramirez scored in the 3-0 win.

  • The teams met again in the Gold Cup group stage, with Jozy Altidore’s bicycle kick serving as the difference in the 1-0 win on June 26, 2019 in Kansas City.

  • The USMNT is 15-1-6 all-time against Panama and has never lost to the Central American side away from U.S. soil (3-0-2 in five matches played in Panama).
