Tonight’s U.S. MNT Starting XI vs. Jamaica:
1-Zack Steffen, 3-Omar Gonzalez, 4-Matt Miazga (capt.), 5-Antonee Robinson, 6-Wil Trapp, 7-Paul Arriola, 8-Jackson Yueill, 10-Cristian Roldan, 13-Tim Ream, 14-Djordje Mihailovic, 19-Josh Sargent

Substitutes: 12-Sean Johnson, 22-Tyler Miller, 2-Nick Lima, 11-Joe Gyau, 16-Daniel Lovitz, 17-Cameron Carter-Vickers, 23-Duane Holmes, 24-Jonathan Amon, 25-Walker Zimmerman

  • U.S. MNT Starting XI Cap Numbers (including this match): Omar Gonzalez (50), Tim Ream (29), Paul Arriola (22), Wil Trapp (16), Matt Miazga (13), Cristian Roldan (10), Zack Steffen (9), Antonee Robinson (7), Josh Sargent (7), Djordje Mihailovic (3), Jackson Yueill (1)
  • Today’s Starting XI has an average age of 24 years, 172 days and 15 caps.
  • The final 23-player roster for the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup is due by midnight tonight.

“I think there will be a few positions that are up for grabs, but not many,” USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter during Tuesday’s press conference. “A lot of the work has been done beforehand, but we will make a few decisions based on tomorrow’s game.”

  • With the start tonight, veteran defender Omar Gonzalez becomes the 54th USMNT player to reach 50 caps. Gonzalez played from 2006-08 at the nearby University of Maryland, where he won the NCAA College Cup in his final season.
  • In his third season with D.C. United, winger Paul Arriola lines up in his home stadium tonight.
  • Matt Miazga captains the team for the first time tonight.
  • Three players earn their first caps of 2019. Josh Sargent and Antonee Robinson each make their seventh appearances for the USMNT, while Jackson Yueill earns his international debut. The trio brings the total number of players that have appeared this year to 30 in five matches.
  • The eighth player to debut under Berhalter, Yueill is the only player in camp that is not part of the provisional 40-player Gold Cup roster.
  • Having celebrated his 24th birthday earlier this week, Cristian Roldan earns his 10th MNT appearance. The midfielder debuted for the USA almost two years ago in a 3-2 win against Martinique during the Concacaf Gold Cup group stage on July 12 in Tampa.
  • Young attackers Josh Sargent and Djordje Mihailovic both share the distinction of scoring in their international debuts. Sargent became the second youngest player to register a goal in his first USMNT cap when he scored the second in a 3-0 win against Bolivia on May 28, 2018 in Chester, Pa. Mihailovic tallied the first goal of the Gregg Berhalter era, scoring the opener in a 3-0 win against Panama on Jan. 27, 2019 in Glendale, Ariz.
  • Center back Omar Gonzalez and winger Paul Arriola both featured in the last meeting with Jamaica, a 2-1 win in the 2017 Concacaf Gold Cup Final.
  • A native of Silver Spring, Md., substitute winger Joe Gyau could make his first USMNT appearance since 2014.
  • Six players are currently with MLS clubs: Arriola (D.C. United), Gonzalez (Toronto FC), Roldan (Seattle Sounders FC), Trapp (Columbus Crew SC), Yueill (San Jose Earthquakes)
  • Five starters are tied to clubs abroad: Miazga (Chelsea), Ream (Fulham), Robinson (Everton), Sargent (Werder Bremen) and Steffen (Manchester City)
  • In 25 all-time matches, the USA leads Jamaica by a 15-2-8 mark. The USMNT holds a 12-1-3 advantage on home soil.
  • Fans in Washington are no strangers to the USA-Jamaica rivalry, having witnessed a 1-1 draw in World Cup Qualifying in 1997 and a 2-0 U.S. victory in the quarterfinals of the 2011 Gold Cup. In 1998, Eric Wynalda scored for the U.S. as the two sides played to a 1-1 draw during the final round of 1998 FIFA World Cup Qualifying on Oct. 3, 1997 at RFK Stadium. Jermaine Jones recorded his first international goal and Clint Dempsey added a sweet insurance strike to deliver a 2-0 shutout on June 19, 2011 in the same venue.
  • The USMNT holds a 3-0-1 record in 2019, outscoring opponents 7-1 over four matches.
