When the final whistle rang out on the USA’s 6-0 win against Cuba at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore on Saturday, it marked both the team’s advancement to the semifinal and the next phase of the work for the MNT coaching staff.  As Jurgen Klinsmann said in his post-match press conference, “we will now stay and watch Haiti-Jamaica with you guys.”  Ultimately, it was Jamaica that prevailed with a 1-0 win and presents the next hurdle for the United States in its Gold Cup title defense.

“We know we have a challenge ahead of us,” Klinsmann said following training Sunday in Baltimore. “Any team that can make it this far in such a tough tournament is a strong team. Jamaica is physical and has incredible speed. We will have to give our best.”

In 22 meetings all time, the MNT is 13-1-8 against Jamaica and is 3-0-0 against the Reggae Boyz in the Gold Cup.

“Obviously we had a strong showing against Cuba, but the key to this tournament is about moving on from those performances and refocusing on the next opponent.”

On Wednesday night in the Georgia Dome, the United States will make its 12th appearance in the semifinal round in 13 Gold Cup tournaments. The team holds and impressive 8-2-1 all-time record at this stage, and has won its last five dating back to 2005.
