The U.S. wasted no time getting on the board in its tournament opener. Osvaldo Cisneros played a low cross into the box in the fifth minute, and Oliva first-timed his shot high to Haiti goalkeeper Ciceron Medina’s right to give the USA an early lead with his first international goal.
The USA earned an insurance goal near the end of regulation. Midfielder Victor Valdez and Jauregui, a forward, came on together as substitutes in the 54th and combined to find the back of the net just six minutes later. From midfield, Valdez played a through ball up to Jauregui, who ran onto the ball and coolly slotted it past the onrushing Medina.
The 18-player U.S. roster for the tournament is made up of 17 players born in 2004 and one born in 2005. Sixteen have spent at least one season in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy.
Forty-two teams across three divisions are competing at the Concacaf U-15 Boys’ Championship. Division 1’s 16-team field is composed of 14 top-ranked Concacaf nations as well as Portugal and Slovenia, participating as invited guest teams from UEFA. The winner of Division 1’s knockout round bracket will be crowned Concacaf champion.
