U.S. Under-16 Girls’ National Team Downs England, 2-1, to Sweep Two-game Set against the Hosts

BURTON-UPON-TRENT, England (Oct. 31, 2025) – The U.S. Under-16 Girls’ National Team made it two wins in two matches on its trip to England with a 2-1 victory over the hosts.

The USA won 1-0 on Oct. 28 on a goal from halftime substitute Ella Dietz. This time it was the player that replaced Dietz at halftime who bagged the game winner when forward Isabelle York shot from 18 yards out over the goalkeeper in the 81st minute.

After a scoreless first half, the USA opened the scoring in the 65th minute when forward Pauline Maletz latched onto the ball amongst a crowd of England players trying to clear the ball and unleashed a shot that snuck through the defense and into net.

England equalized via Tia Brooks in the 76th as she finished a rebound after U.S. goalkeeper Carmen O’Dea had saved the initial shot, but that just set the stage for the heroics from York.

As was the case in the first match, the USA had the edge in shots and shots on goal, eventually outshooting England 14-9 overall and 7-2 in shots on target.

All players in this camp were born in 2010 and represent the core of the team that will compete to qualify for the 2027 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

This year marks the beginning of FIFA’s annual staging of FIFA U-17 WWC — as opposed to biannually as it was in the past — and the tournament will be held in Morocco for the next four years.
