ATLANTA (October 9, 2025) – Barely a week after Nashville SC lifted the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup trophy, the road to make next year’s Tournament Proper will pick up this weekend with 59 Second Qualifying Round contests for the 2026 edition of U.S. Soccer’s Club Championship.

118 clubs from the record pool of 145 amateur entrants will be in action during the Second Qualifying Round across Oct. 10-12, which includes teams from 26 states plus the District of Columbia. The busiest window of this fall’s four Qualifying Rounds will see the winners moving on to the Third Qualifying Round in early November.

Second Qualifying Round action starts with a lone Friday night feature pitting 14-time Open Cup participant Western Mass Pioneers – the USL League Two side that counts USMNT forward Patrick Agyemang among its notable alumni – against Atletico Boston at “The Soccer Capital of New England”, historic Lusitano Stadium, in Ludlow, Mass.

Saturday’s 25-game slate kicks off with a Philly Metro matinee hosted by 2025 Open Division participant Vereinigung Erzgebirge Majors, who continue their trek back to the Tournament Proper versus Colonial SC in a United Soccer League of Pennsylvania showdown. Tulsa Athletic continue their path toward a fifth straight appearance in the Tournament Proper when they host Denton Diablos, while two more sides from this spring’s Open Division roster who received byes in the First Qualifying Round – CD Faialense (vs. Project Football) and Harbor City FC (at FC Kanks) – begin their respective roads back on Saturday.

Sunday’s massive list of 33 matches includes five more teams from the 2025 Open Division crop in action – Harpos FC (at Boulder United), Miami United FC (vs. Boca Jrs Miami FC), NY Renegades FC (at four-time Open Cup Champion New York Greek American SC), Southern Indiana FC (vs. Bootleggers AC) and Virginia Dream FC (at Doradus FC). Once San Ramon FC and Dublin Celtic FC finish off the evening’s final fixture in the Bay Area, the field of 64 teams for the Third Qualifying Round from Nov. 1-2 will be set, with this weekend’s 59 victors joining the five teams with Second Qualifying Round byes – Ballard FC, Brockton FC United, City Soccer FC, Laguna United FC and UDA Soccer.

For the second consecutive year, the 2026 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Tournament Proper will include 32 Open Division teams, with 16 of those squads earning their way via the Qualifying Rounds.

A record 145 clubs registered to participate in the 2026 Qualifying Rounds, which culminate with all 16 qualifier bids being decided in the Fourth Qualifying Round on Nov. 22-23. The 16 spots awarded to teams from the Qualifying Rounds are also the most ever available via this qualifying track, up two from last year’s 14 allocations.

About the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup

The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup has crowned U.S. Soccer’s national champion since 1914. The history-filled tournament is conducted on a single-game-knockout basis and is open to professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer. In 1999, the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the U.S. was renamed to honor American soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt. The 2026 U.S. Open Cup winner will earn a berth in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup and have its name engraved on the Dewar Challenge Trophy – one of the oldest nationally contested trophies in American team sports – now on permanent display at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Frisco, Texas. Nashville SC of MLS is the defending U.S. Open Cup Champion. The 110th edition of the tournament concluded on October 1, 2025, with NSC defeating Austin FC to claim the Tennessee club’s first piece of major silverware.

The official website of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is ussoccer.com/us-open-cup. Fans can also follow the competition on X/Twitter and Instagram @OpenCup and Facebook @OfficialOpenCup.
