PHILLY AGAIN FOR PARAGUAY

The USMNT has a solid 4W-2L-2D record against Paraguay, with the series resuming for the first time since a 1-0 USA victory on March 27, 2018. On that day, 2022 FIFA World Cup veteran Tim Weah became the first player born in the 2000s to earn an appearance for the U.S. Men’s National Team, while Zack Steffen collected his first shutout. The history between the teams goes all the way back to the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930, where the USA earned a 3-0 win and Bert Patenaude became thefirst male player to record a hat-trick in the world championship.

This is the second time the teams will square off in the Philadelphia area. On June 11, 2016, Clint Dempsey netted his 51st international goal and the U.S. rode a 1-0 shutout win in the last group game to book a place in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Copa America Centenario.

TRYING TO BESTLA CELESTE

The U.S. has mixed results against a country with one of the most storied football histories in the game. Overall, the USMNT is 2W-3L-4D against La Celeste in a series that goes back a century. The teams met for the very first time at the 1924 Paris Olympics, a 3-0 loss for the U.S. against the eventual Olympic gold medalists.

This will be the fourth meeting since 2019. On Sept. 10, 2019, Jordan Morris grabbed the game-tying goal in a 1-1 draw at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The last two meetings have been hosted in Kansas City. The teams first dueled to a scoreless draw in a previous World Cup preparation match on June 5, 2022. In the group stage finale of the 2024 Copa America, Uruguay bested the United States in a 1-0 win and setting the stage for their third-place finish in the South American championship.

Two-time World Cup Champions, La Celeste havealso won 15 Copa América titles, tying them with Argentina for the most tournament victories all-time. Their most recent victory came in 2011. They have been runners-up six times and took third place on 10 occasions.

BACK TO CHESTER

It’s been seven years since the USMNT last stepped on the pitch at Subaru Park, a fond memory for Josh Sargent, Tim Weah and Walker Zimmerman, all of whom scored their first international goals in the USA’s 3-0 shutout against Bolivia on May 28, 2018. It’s the home of the Philadelphia Union and the launching point for the careers of several current USMNT players; in fact, seven players from the Gold Cup roster came through the Union academy.

TAMPA TIME

The USMNT returns to Tampa for the first time since 2018, a venue which has hosted the team for World Cup Qualifiers, Gold Cup group matches, and now a second road to the World Cup challenge match.

On Feb. 24, 2010, goals from Brian Ching and Sacha Kljestan paced the U.S. to a 2-1 win against El Salvador ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. As the U.S. began its team rebuild in 2018, the young squad put two goals past the heavily favored Colombians and eventually fell 4-2 in front of a Tampa-record crowd of 38,631 on Oct. 11, 2018.

Overall, the USA holds a lifetime record of 4W-2L-0D at Raymond James Stadium and 5W-3L-1D record in Tampa. A total of 11 different U.S. players have put their name on the scoresheet at RJS, including two individual multi-goal games (Landon Donovan, Jordan Morris) and three scored by defenders (Carlos Bocanegra, Clarence Goodson, Omar Gonzalez).
