U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team Head Coach Gonzalo Segares Names USA Roster for 2025 Concacaf U-17 Qualifiers in Costa Rica

Eight Teams Will Qualify to 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar With New and Expanded Annual Format; USA Set to Face U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Kitts and Nevis and Cuba in Group F Play From Feb. 10-15 in Costa Rica

CHICAGO (Feb. 3, 2025) – U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team head coach Gonzalo Segares has selected the 21-player roster that will represent the United States at the 2025 Concacaf U-17 Qualifiers, set for Feb. 10-15 in Costa Rica. The USA will aim to qualify for a record 19th FIFA U-17 World Cup as eight teams will earn berths to the expanded 48-team tournament, set for November in Qatar.

The U.S. was drawn into Group F and kicks off its qualifying campaign against the U.S. Virgin Islands on Monday, Feb. 10, faces St. Kitts and Nevis on Wednesday, Feb. 12 and finishes the competition against Cuba on Saturday, Feb. 15. All three of the USA’s group stage matches kick off at 8 p.m. ET, with the first two games at the Estadio Nacional in San Jose and the third at Estadio Alejandro Morera Soto in Alajuela. The competition will be broadcast on Fox Sports platforms, with the final broadcast schedule to be confirmed.

Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2008 are age-eligible for the 2025 Concacaf U-17 Qualifiers and all 21 players selected were born in 2008.

The squad features players from 15 clubs, including 13 from Major League Soccer. Real Salt Lake leads the contributors with four players, followed by three from the Philadelphia Union and two from the LA Galaxy. All 21 players have spent time in MLS NEXT and 16 have seen professional action in MLS NEXT Pro. Eight players are signed to MLS Homegrown contracts.

Two players come from USL Championship clubs: Orange County SC defender Pedro Guimaraes and Birmingham Legion FC defender Ramiz Hamouda.

Since the U-17 cycle for 2008-birth year players kicked off last September, 10 players have been called up for all three training camps: Chase Adams, Maximo Carrizo, Chance Cowell, Christopher Cupps, Guimaraes, Jack Kortkamp, Enrique Martinez, Luca Moisa, Jude Terry and Gio Villa. Including three training camps as the U-16 Boys’ National Team, two players have been a part of every gathering: Guimaraes and Villa.

The new Concacaf U-17 Qualifiers feature 35 teams divided into eight groups (five of four teams, three of five teams) played across six different countries. No knockout stage will be contested. Each of the eight group winners will punch its ticket to the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

  • Three alternates will travel with the U.S. to Costa Rica to train with the team prior to the tournament: Houston Dynamo FC defender Micah Harris, Chicago Fire FC defender Chase Nagle and Real Salt Lake midfielder Antonio Riquelme.
  • Forward Chance Cowell is the younger brother of USMNT forward Cade Cowell.
  • The players hail from 12 states, led by five from California and three each from Illinois and Pennsylvania.
  • The eight MLS Homegrown players are goalkeepers Jack Kortkamp and Owen Pratt, defender Gio Villa, midfielders Maximo Carrizo, Luca Moisa and Jude Terry plus forwards Cowell and Tanner Rosborough.
  • Six players logged more than 800 minutes in MLS NEXT Pro last season. Forward Chase Adams was the only player born in 2008 or younger to score nine goals during the 2024 campaign.
  • Pratt, Moisa and Adams were all named MLS NEXT All-Stars in 2024.
  • Pratt and defender Enrique Martinez played key roles in helping LA Galaxy U-17 win MLS NEXT Cup last summer. Pratt was named Best Goalkeeper at the competition.
