CHICAGO (Dec. 9, 2024) – The U.S. Women’s National Team will take on Brazil in two April friendly matches, playing at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday, April 5, 2025 (2 p.m. PT / 5 p.m. ET on TNT, truTv, Max, Universo & Peacock) and at PayPal Park in San Jose, Calif., on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 (7:30 p.m. PT / 10:30 p.m. ET on TBS, Max, Universo & Peacock).

The matches are significant for several reasons, the first being that they will mark the first meetings between the USA and Brazil since their epic clash in the 2024 Olympic gold medal game in Paris which saw the Americans prevail, 1-0, on a goal from Mallory Swanson. Brazil is currently ranked eighth in the world while the USA sits in the top spot.

The U.S. Women’s National Team is no stranger to historic sporting moments and the game at the state-of-the-art SoFi Stadium, home to the Los Angeles Chargers and Los Angeles Rams of the NFL, will mark the first-ever women’s professional sporting event at the iconic venue, which will host eight matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In preparation for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, SoFi Stadium will debut the natural grass test system to be utilized during the tournament. The installation will take place for the Men’s Concacaf Nations League Finals, scheduled for March 20 (Semifinals) and March 23 (Third-Place Match and Championship). The grass system will remain in the stadium for subsequent marquee events, including the USA vs. Brazil clash on April 5, 2025.

The USA’s trip to PayPal Park, home to Bay FC of the NWSL and the San Jose Earthquakes of MLS, marks a return to the San Jose-Bay Area where the USWNT has a long and rich history. Many current and former players have Bay Area ties and the USWNT played its first ever match in California in San Jose at Spartan Stadium in 1997.

“These are matches against a top team in fantastic stadiums that will be as fun for the players as they are for the fans,” said U.S. head coach Emma Hayes. “To play the first ever women’s professional match at Sofi Stadium is a great honor and one worthy of this team. We’re very much looking forward to spending this trip in California which has produced so many players for the U.S. Women’s National Team and so many great moments in our history.”

Additional Notes:

  • These matches against Brazil will be the first for the USWNT after the completion of the 2025 SheBelieves Cup that will feature the USA, Australia, Colombia and Japan and run from Feb. 20-26 with doubleheaders being played in Houston, Glendale, Ariz. and San Diego.
  • Brazil will host the next world championship for women’s soccer when the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup comes to their shores.
  • The USWNT is 33W-3L-5D all-time against Brazil. The teams have never met before in the Greater Los Angeles area, but have met twice in the San Jose-Bay Area, squaring off at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto in the World Cup semifinal in 1999 and at Spartan Stadium in San Jose, Calif. in 2000.
  • Brazil has players spread out among numerous NWSL teams, including the 2023 MVP Kerolin, who plays for the North Carolina Courage.
  • The USA and Brazil met twice in 2024, both in tournament finals, with the USA winning the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup on March 10 in San Diego, 1-0, on a header goal from Lindsey Horan, and then again in the Olympic gold medal game.
  • The USWNT last played at PayPal Park on July 9, 2023, against Wales, a 2-0 victory, as Trinity Rodman scored both goals in the USA’s final match before the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
