ATHENS, Georgia (July 16, 2024) – The U.S. Under-20 Women’s Youth National Team defeated Mexico 3-0 in a friendly match on a brace from Ally Sentnor and a penalty kick goal from Riley Jackson in both teams’ final tune-up before the 2024 FIFA Under-20 Women’s World Cup.
In the 34th minute, Florida State forward Giana Riley brought the ball down the right wing and delivered it toward Mexico’s six-yard box. Sentnor, a forward for Utah Royals in NWSL, wrestled it away from a Mexico defender and struck a left-footed shot into the back of the net.
The U.S. scored again in the 57th minute when Florida State midfielder Taylor Suarez, a second-half substitute, led an attack and found Sentnor at the top of the box. Sentnor dribbled behind the last line of defense, juked right around the goalie, and placed the ball in the right side of the goal.
The U.S. rounded out the scoring in the 84th minute on a penalty kick. A Mexico defender knocked down Florida State forward and Georgia native Jordynn Dudley from behind during a contested header. North Carolina Courage midfielder and fellow Peach State product Riley Jackson blasted the penalty shot into the net without contest from Mexico’s goalie.
The U.S. starting lineup featured four professional players. The U-20s played six NWSL rookies, including Ally Lemos (Orlando Pride), Sentnor (Utah Royals), Savy King (Bay FC), Claire Hutton (Kansas City Current), and subs Jackson (North Carolina Courage) and Emeri Adames (Seattle Reign FC).
The U.S. will play defending champion Spain on Sept. 1 in its opening match of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.
