Making the Case for Emily Fox for U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year:
- The 25-year-old Fox had the best year of her international career to date, setting personal bests in games played (17), starts (15) and minutes played (1,341) in 2023.
- Proving nearly impossible to beat one-on-one while also helping drive the team forward attacking down the flank, Fox led the team with 26 interceptions and her 114 ball recoveries were good for third on the team this year.
- She also added one goal and one assist on the year, scoring her first international goal with a screaming right-footed attempt from distance in the USA’s April 8 victory over the Republic of Ireland and assisting Lindsey Horan’s goal against Colombia on October 29.

- Fox appeared in all but one of the USA’s 18 games this year and finished second on the team in total minutes played. Fox was the only player to play three full 90-minute games at the 2023 SheBelieves Cup, impressing in all three games as she logged a total of 270 minutes in the tournament while helping the USA hoist the trophy for a fourth consecutive year.
- Fox had an excellent 2023 World Cup, her first at the senior level, starting every match and playing all but eight minutes as the USA allowed just two shots on goal and one goal all tournament.
- Fox was traded to the North Carolina Courage prior to the start of the 2023 NWSL Season and had an instant impact with her new club, starting all 18 of her regular season appearances and tallying two assists while helping North Carolina finish third in the league standings.
- Fox was named to the NWSL Best XI Second Team and helped the Courage win the 2023 NWSL Challenge Cup.
This is Fox’s first ever nomination for U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year. She was a nominee for U.S. Soccer Young Female Player of the Year in 2021.
