U-16 MYNT Heads To Tampa For First Training Camp Of 2023

Head Coach Michael Nsien Calls Up 23 Players from Jan. 4-13

CHICAGO (Jan. 3, 2023) – The U.S. Under-16 Men’s Youth National Team will hold its first training camp of the year from Jan. 4-13 at the Hillsborough County Tournament Sportsplex in Tampa, Fla. Head coach Michael Nsien has called up 23 players for the event, his second training camp since taking the reins of the U-16 MYNT in November.

Players born on or after Jan. 1, 2007 are age-eligible for this U-16 MYNT cycle. All 23 players were born in 2007 are age-eligible for the upcoming Concacaf U-17 Championship in Guatemala.

Thirteen players return from the U-16s’ last training camp, a strong showing at November’s Football Federations Cup U-16 in Ablir, Spain that included victories against Wales and England. Forward Montrell Culbreath tied with two other players for most goals scored at the tournament. Seven players have been a part of all three U-16 MYNT training camps so far this cycle.

Twenty clubs are represented on the roster, including 18 Major League Soccer academies. Two players each were called up from LAFC, the Philadelphia Union and New York City FC, while one player- Culbreath - is based abroad at Germany’s 1FC Kaiserslautern. The roster hails from 13 different states, led by three players from California, New York and Texas.
