BACK TO THE LIONS DEN

The site of the USA-Panama home World Cup Qualifier will seem familiar to USMNT fans, as the venue hosted this fixture four years ago. On Oct. 6, 2017, two first-half goals from Jozy Altidore as well as well-crafted strikes from Christian Pulisic and Bobby Wood led the USA to a 4-0 shutout in front of a sell-out crowd of 25,303 fans.

In 2019, the USMNT unloaded on Canada in a 4-1 win in Concacaf Nations League A play. Gyasi Zardes grabbed a brace, Jordan Morris tallied a goal and an assist while Aaron Long also scored in the victory that made Berhalter the second-fastest coach in team history to reach 10 wins.

The winning ways continued in 2021 when the USMNT kicked off the year with a dominant 7-0 win against Trinidad and Tobago as four players scored and five added assists. Jesús Ferreira, Paul Arriola and Jonathan Lewis all scored twice, marking the first time since 1993 that three USMNT players scored multiple goals in a single game.

Overall, the USA holds a perfect 4-0-0 record at Exploria Stadium and a 5-2-0 record in Orlando overall.

MARCH TRIPLE DATE

The match against Panama is part of the ‘triple date’ in World Cup Qualifying during which the U.S. will play three matches in seven days.

In advance of the game in Orlando, the USMNT will play away to Mexico on March 24 in Mexico City. The USA will conclude the final round Octagonal on March 30 in Costa Rica.

Under the new qualifying format, a total of eight teams – increased from six in previous cycles - will compete in the Final Round, with the top three teams advancing to Qatar ’22. The fourth-place team will participate in an Intercontinental playoff for the last spot.

The 10 matches in the Final Round had typically been played during the course of 18 months. Due to schedule changes related to the global pandemic and the new format, each team will play 14 matched in a seven-month period.

STADIUM SAFETY PROTOCOLS

U.S. Soccer will follow official local health guidelines for this event. Fans are encouraged not to bring in bags of any kind. All tickets will be mobile-only. There will be reserved seating only; general admission will not be allowed. All concession stands will be cashless to reduce points of contact.
