Hall of Fame Induction Weekend to Celebrate Classes of 2020 and 2021

U.S. National Team legends Christie Pearce Rampone, Steve Cherundolo and Carlos Bocanegra will be officially inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame on Saturday, October 2 when the annual induction ceremony is held at the National Soccer Hall of Fame in Frisco, Texas.

Pearce Rampone and Cherundolo are joined in the Hall of Fame Class of 2021 by four-time Major League Soccer champion Jaime Moreno and longtime MLS executive Kevin Payne. Bocanegra and Colin Jose Media Award Winner Andrés Cantor were recognized by the Hall of Fame in 2020 but saw their ceremony postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The 2021 National Soccer Hall of Fame Weekend festivities kick off on Friday, October 1 with the induction ceremony beginning at 12:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, October 2. The event will be available for viewing via livestream through the Hall of Fame YouTube channel. Along with the induction ceremony, the Hall of Famers will also be recognized at halftime of the MLS Hall of Fame match between FC Dallas and Minnesota United FC (8 p.m. ET on ESPN+).

Carlos Bocanegra, Player – Class of 2020

  • Captained the U.S. Men’s National Team in 64 of his 110 caps during a 12-year international career and tallied 14 career international goals, the most by a USMNT defender

  • Represented the USA at the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups and helped lead the USMNT to Gold Cup wins in 2002 and 2007

  • Retired from professional soccer in 2014 after a 15-year career that included more than 200 career appearances in England, France, Scotland and the United States

Steve Cherundolo, Player – Class of 2021

  • Earned 87 caps with the U.S. Men’s National Team during his 14-year international career, totally two goals

  • A member of three World Cup rosters (2002, 2006, 2010) and helped the USMNT win the 2005 Gold Cup

  • Nicknamed “The Mayor of Hanover”, played 15 seasons in Germany for Hannover 96 and made over 300 appearances for the club

Christie Pearce Rampone, Player – Class of 2021

  • Amassed 311 caps over the course of her 19-year international career, becoming just the second player in world soccer history to reach 300 international appearances

  • Two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion (1999, 2015) and three-time Olympic gold medalist (2004, 2008, 2012)

  • A stalwart on the U.S. Women’s National Team’s defense, she captained the USWNT from 2008-15

  • Represented the USA at nine world championships (five World Cups, four Olympics) in total

Andrés Cantor, Colin Jose Media Award – Class of 2020

  • As the lead play-by-play announcer for Telemundo Deportes, has spent nearly 35 years covering soccer at the highest levels, announcing games for Women’s and Men’s World Cups and Olympics for decades
  • His iconic “Gooooool” call has chronicled some of the biggest moments in U.S. Women’s and Men’s National Team history

Jaime Moreno, Veteran – Class of 2021

 

  • Played 15 seasons in MLS, appearing in 340 MLS regular season games, 32 playoff games and scoring a total of 145 goals in his time with D.C. United and the MetroStars

  • Six-time MLS Best XI selection (1997, 1999, 2004, 2005, 2006), four-time MLS champion (1996, 1997, 1999, 2004), two-time U.S. Open Cup champion (1996, 2008) and 1998 Concacaf Champions Cup winner

  • Totaled nine goals in 75 international appearances for Bolivia, including the 1994 FIFA World Cup and five Copa Americas

Kevin Payne, Builder – Class of 2021

  • Spent 15 seasons as president and general manager of D.C. United (1996-01, 2004-12), during which he helped guide the club to four MLS championships (1996, 1997, 1999, 2004) and two U.S. Open Cup titles (1996, 2008)

  • Recipient of the 2011 U.S. Soccer Werner Fricker Builder Award for his contributions to the sport

  • Currently serves as CEO and Executive Director of U.S. Club Soccer
