Two Argentina Players Cleared to Play against Canada on Second Match Day of 2021 SheBelieves Cup

CHICAGO (Feb. 21, 2021) – Two of the four players from the Argentina Women’s National Team that were ruled out of the team’s opening SheBelieves Cup match against Brazil on Feb. 18 have been cleared to face Canada today at Exploria Stadium (6p.m. ET on FS2 and TUDN App/TUDN.tv).

Both Adriana Sachs and Eliana Stabile have tested negative in serial testing since their arrival in accordance with U.S. Soccer’s COVID-19 protocols.

The two other Argentina players are still not eligible to play. One of those players tested positive upon arrival in Orlando and in subsequent testing. She had no high-risk contacts and has been isolated since the first positive test result. This player has been ruled ineligible for the tournament.

U.S. Soccer worked with the Argentina Football Association on a replacement for that player and goalkeeper Laurina Oliveros joined the squad prior to the first match. Oliveros was appropriately tested in accordance with U.S. Soccer’s protocols before being confirmed eligible to play today.

The second player, Natalia Juncos, was also isolated after inconsistent test results on arrival and is not eligible to play tonight. The two players who were deemed high-risk contacts with her are the ones who have subsequently tested negative in serial testing and have been cleared to play.

All other members of the Argentina delegation -- players and staff -- tested negative since arrival and in multiple tests during their pre-camp prior to traveling to Orlando. In addition, all members of the USA, Brazil and Canada delegations – players and staff -- have tested negative in multiple tests since arrival in Orlando.

U.S. Soccer would like to thank the Argentina Football Association and the Argentina Women’s National Team staff and players, as well as those for Canada and Brazil, for their cooperation and adherence to all the COVID-19 protocols.
