On this day in 2018, forward Josh Sargent scored the USA’s lone goal in a 1-1 draw with rising South American power Peru at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Conn.

In doing so, the then 18-year-old became just the seventh USMNT player to register multiple goals as a teenager. At 18 years, 240 days, the product of O’Fallon, Mo. also became the third fastest USMNT player to do so, following current teammate Christian Pulisic (17 years, 353 days) and Juan Agudelo (18 years, 123 days).

The game on this day two years ago was only Sargent’s second start and fifth overall appearance for the USMNT.

Finding the back of the net three more times in 2019, Sargent took his career total to five before turning 20 this past February.  The five goals before his 20th birthday ranks the Werder Bremen striker third all-time among USMNT teenage goal scorers behind only Jozy Altidore and Pulisic and ahead of joint all-time USMNT leading goal scorer Landon Donovan.

Notably, all three players appeared in more matches than Sargent before their 20th birthdays.
