CHICAGO (Jan. 3, 2020) – The U.S. Soccer Federation has appointed Aron Hyde as Goalkeeper Coach of the U.S. Men’s National Team.

Most recently with Major League Soccer outfit Atlanta United FC, Hyde brings 14 years of coaching experience at the domestic and international level. Prior to being hired full time, he served as the goalkeeper coach for the USMNT for the victories against Canada and Cuba in the Nations League this past November.

Hired by U.S. Soccer Sporting Director Earnie Stewart in conjunction with USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter, Hyde will begin his tenure during the USMNT’s annual January Camp.

“Aron brings a tremendous amount of experience and a knowledge of both the domestic and international landscape,” Stewart said. “He will be a great addition to the senior team staff while also serving as a connector to the rest of our programs.”

Hyde spent three seasons with Atlanta United FC as the club’s inaugural goalkeeper coach. Hyde’s leadership helped Atlanta goalkeepers concede the fourth-fewest goals in MLS in 2017 and 2018 and allowed just two goals throughout the 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs. Additionally, under Hyde’s tutelage, veteran MNT goalkeeper Brad Guzan posted a shutout streak of 541 minutes in 2017– the sixth-longest in league history.

Prior to Atlanta, Hyde spent two years with U.S. Soccer as a goalkeeper coach with the Men’s National Team and various Youth National Teams. He also spent six seasons as the goalkeeper coach with Chicago Fire (2010-15). Hyde joined the Fire in 2010 after spending 2009 as an assistant coach with the University of Washington men’s team.

He served as the Goalkeeping Coach for Seattle University’s men’s and women’s soccer teams, from 2006-09. Hyde previously coached for Seattle-based Emerald City FC where he served as assistant goalkeeper coach and head team coach for two of the club’s boys’ teams.

“We are pleased to add Aron to the technical staff as Goalkeeper Coach,” Berhalter said. “He has extensive knowledge of the American goalkeeper pool and excels on the training field preparing our goalkeepers to perform.”

A native of Birmingham, England, Hyde’s vast playing experience includes spells with Walsall FC, Millwall FC, and Wycombe Wanderers in England. Stateside, he spent time at Judson College (NAIA). He currently possesses a USSF A and USSF Goalkeeping license, and a UEFA A Coaching License. Hyde earned his master’s degree in Sport Administration and Leadership from Seattle University in 2009.
