USMNT 2019 By the Numbers

The USMNT brought the curtain down on 2019 with a comprehensive 4-0 win against Cuba on Nov. 19 in George Town, Cayman Islands, concluding Gregg Berhalter’s first year in charge with an 11-5-2 record. Before looking too far ahead to 2020, here’s a numerical look at some of the team’s highlights from the past year.

38 – The number of goals the USMNT scored in 2019, ranking fifth all-time in a calendar year after 2013 (51 goals/23 GP), 1993 (45 goals/34 GP), 2009 (43 goals/24 GP), 2015 (42 goals/20 GP).

– The USMNT’s goal difference in 2019, the second highest in team history after only 2013 (+28).

Along with Zardes two performances, Tyler Boyd (June 18 vs. Guyana), Aaron Long (June 22 vs. Trinidad & Tobago), Christian Pulisic (July 3 vs. Jamaica), Weston McKennie (Oct. 11 vs. Cuba), Jordan Morris and Josh Sargent (Nov. 19 vs. Cuba) were the others.

– For the first time in team history, four players scored five or more goals in a calendar year. For the record, they were Gyasi Zardes (six), Weston McKennie, Jordan Morris and Christian Pulisic (five each).

2.11 – The team’s goals per game rate, the third highest in a calendar year after only 2013 (2.21 goals per 90/23 GP) and 2008 (2.14 goals per 90/14 GP).


2 – Sticking with the multi-goal stat, Aaron Long’s brace against Trinidad & Tobago on June 22 also marked the first time a USMNT defender scored two goals in a match.
