Minnesota United are up in rarefied air in 2019. Having missed the MLS playoffs in their two years as a top-flight club and never having made any kind of run in the Open Cup, the so-called Loons are getting hot this year in their brand-new, state-of-the-art Allianz Field. Up near the top of the MLS Western Conference standings, they are into the Last Four of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup for the first time ever. One step away from a first Final, they have proven the best attacking side in the competition thus far – with Colombian sensation Darwin Quintero scoring five goals in three games and the team bagging no fewer than 13 in those same three games. Having already knocked off both of the last two years’ Open Cup champs in Houston Dynamo and Sporting Kansas City, Adrian Heath’s MNUFC will fancy their chances up against Portland in the Semifinal.
