CHICAGO (June 11, 2019) – U.S. Men’s National Team defender Tyler Adams has been forced to withdraw from the roster for the 2019 Gold Cup due to injury. Following further evaluation in New York City, the 20-year-old has been diagnosed with acute on chronic groin issues that will require a minimum of 6-8 weeks recovery period.
FC Dallas defender Reggie Cannon has been added to the 23-player roster and will report to Minneapolis on Tuesday. The team resumes training June 12 in advance of its opening match of Group D against Guyana on June 18 at Allianz Field, a venue that set the record for the fastest sell-out in tournament history (10 p.m. ET; FS1, UniMas & UDN).
Per tournament regulations, a player may be removed from the roster due to injury up to 24 hours prior to a team’s opening match. The replacement must come from the 40-player provisional roster, which was due no later than May 16 to Concacaf.
Following the Guyana match, the U.S. moves east to face Trinidad & Tobago on Saturday, June 22 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland before closing group play against Panama on Wednesday, June 26 at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kan.
