NaTIONAL TEAM HIGHLIGHTS
- One of the most remarkable comeback stories in USWNT history, re-established herself on the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2021, more than doubling the number of caps she got in her previous stint with the team from 2012-2014.
- Mewis debuted with the senior USWNT in 2013 and earned 15 caps over 2013 and 2014, but then was out of the National Team picture for six years – during which time she rehabbed an ACL injury -- before making a dramatic return in 2020 after performing well in the NWSL. She has since been called up to every event the USWNT has held over 2021, 2022 and 2023.
- Mewis marked her comeback with a goal against the Netherlands on Nov. 27, 2020, her first appearance for the USWNT in over four years. In fact, there were 2,454 days between Kristie’s 15th and 16th caps with the only longer span belonging to defender Keri Raygor, who had 2,466 days between her 8th and 9th caps
- She scored against Iceland to help seal the 2022 SheBelieves Cup and scored twice in back-to-back games at the 2022 Concacaf W Championship as she helped the USA secure berths to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2024 Paris Olympics.
- Was named to the USA’s roster for the 2020 Olympics and helped the team to a bronze medal.
PREVIOUS WORLD CUP EXPERIENCE
- She was the 2008 U.S. Soccer Young Female Athlete of the Year after an excellent performance at the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand, where she earned the Bronze Ball as the third best player in the tournament.
- Was one of the top players on the USA’s 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Team in Germany, playing every minute of all four matches while scoring a goal with two assists.
CLUB HIGHLIGHTS
- In 2013, she was the third overall pick in the 2013 NWSL College Draft by FC Kansas City and then head coach Vlatko Andonovski, she started all 20 matches she played, mostly at left back, and played 1,784 minutes. She scored one goal as she helped FCKC to a second-place finish in the league and into the playoffs.
- On Dec. 16, 2021, she was traded from the San Diego Wave FC, which had taken her from the Houston Dash in the 2022 NWSL Expansion Draft, to NJ/NY Gotham in exchange for $200,000 in allocation money. She was San Diego’s first selection in the 2022 NWSL Expansion Draft.
- Also spent time playing on loan in Japan and Germany.
PERSONAL
- Daughter of Bob and Melissa Mewis, her younger sister, Samantha, helped lead the USA to victory at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
- With Kristie’s inclusion on the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup Roster, the Mewis sisters become the first set of sisters to each represent the USA at a FIFA Women’s World Cup.
- They became the first sisters ever to represent the USA at a Women’s Youth World Cup at the 2008 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in New Zealand and at the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Germany and were also the first sisters ever to make an Olympic Team (2020), as well as being the most capped sisters in USWNT history.
