A winger with plenty of pace, whether on or off the field, Jonathan Lewis always seems to be on the move. Lewis found his love for the game from the time his family lived in Jamaica, developed his craft with Florida clubs Plantation FC and Kendall SC and spent time in England with Bradford City before a year with Akron University.
Now in his third season with New York City FC, Lewis has begun establishing himself as a standout winger in Major League Soccer, while his strengths out wide saw him earn his first MNT call up in January 2019.
LATE CALL-UP
Jonathan Lewis was the last player added to Gregg Berhalter’s first U.S. Men’s National Team camp in January 2019, and he had to admit he was a bit surprised. Though he’d been part of the U.S. squad at the 2017 Concacaf U-20 Championship, Lewis had largely played a substitute role for NYCFC during his first two seasons and didn’t believe he was on the MNT radar yet.
EARLY DIVIDENDS
With the two assists, Lewis became the first MNT player to record assists in two straight matches as a substitute since 2014.
