Safe Soccer Clearance

Safe Soccer Clearance

In order to help create the safest environments for our participants, U.S. Soccer is rolling out the Safe Soccer Clearance program.

Based on feedback from our members, this program centralizes safeguarding elements in one, easy-to-use solution that includes the Center for SafeSport’s core training, purpose-built safeguarding education, annual verification of contact information, and a USOPC background check. Additionally, we’re working with members to improve state-specific background check workflows and offer payment optionality capabilities.

  1. Simplicity: This is a one-stop safeguarding solution for the entire soccer ecosystem that helps reduce the administrative burden and cost to scaled adoption
  2. Transparency: Single database to allow members to see the status of those participating
  3. Accountability: Allows members and U.S. Soccer to work together to keep bad actors out of the game
  4. Standardization: National minimum standard for clearance, reducing duplicative costs and efforts

Since its beta release in April 2024, the SSC program has received positive member feedback, allowing us to officially launch in 2025 in time for the summer registration cycle. We will be working together with our members to formally adopt the program, ensuring this creates a simple workflow for all.

By reducing the cost of background checks, providing administrative dashboards exclusively for our members, and adjudicating the appeals process - we aim to make SSC the gold standard for soccer in America.
