WNT on TV: Houston Welcomes Utah in Friday Matchup

With Easter Sunday on deck this weekend, the NWSL will host a Friday night game and three Saturday games during Week 2 action, which includes the Orlando Pride visiting the Washington Spirit as the Lifetime Game of the Week.

With Easter Sunday on deck this weekend, the NWSL will host a Friday night game and three Saturday games during Week 2 action, which includes the Orlando Pride visiting the Washington Spirit as the Lifetime Game of the Week. 

NWSL – Friday, March 30


Houston Dash vs. Utah Royals FC – 8 p.m. ET (go90.com)
In the lone game being played on Friday night, Jane Campbell and the Houston Dash welcome Becky Sauerbrunn and the Utah Royals FC in the first meeting between the clubs. 

Houston is winless in their last seven games with five losses and two draws, but opened the season with a 1-1 draw against Chicago last weekend. In its first game in club history, Utah also drew 1-1, with Orlando, via a goal from Iceland international Gunnhildur Jónsdóttir. 


NWSL – Saturday, March 31

North Carolina Courage vs. Sky Blue FC – 3 p.m. ET (go90.com)
After having a bye on the first weekend of the new season, Carli Lloyd, Savannah McCaskill and Sky Blue FC is set to open its 2018 schedule on Saturday afternoon when they visit Lynn Williams, Abby Dahlkemper and the North Carolina Courage in Cary, N.C. North Carolina and Sky Blue each earned a win and draw against each other last season.

The Courage scored all three of their goals in their win against Sky Blue in the first half, while Sky Blue scored both of their goals in their win over the Courage in the second half. The Courage, which has won five of their last six regular season home games, most recently the earned a 1-0 win against Portland last weekend in the season’s first Lifetime Game of the Week.

Washington Spirit vs. Orlando Pride – 3:30 p.m. ET (TV: Lifetime Game of the Week)
This week’s Lifetime Game of the Week will feature a handful of U.S. WNT players when Mallory Pugh, Andi Sullivan, Ashley Hatch, Taylor Smith and the Washington Spirit welcome Alex Morgan, Ashlyn Harris and the Orlando Pride to the Maryland SoccerPlex.

The Pride went unbeaten against the Spirit last season with one win and two draws in their three meetings, after losing both of their games against Washington the prior season. Pugh was one of three players last week with 5+ successful take-ons and 3+ chances created. 

Chicago Red Stars vs. Portland Thorns FC – 8:15 p.m. ET (go90.com)
To close out the weekend, Chicago will host Portland in a doubleheader at Toyota Park that will also feature the teams’ MLS sides – the Chicago Fire and Portland Timbers – going head-to-head a few hours earlier. Coming off a draw in Houston last weekend, Julie Ertz, Sofia Huerta and Alyssa Naeher will welcome the reigning NWSL Champions at home with Meghan Klingenberg, Lindsey Horan and Emily Sonnett looking to earn its first win of the season after dropping its season opener against the Courage last Saturday.

The Thorns have gone unbeaten in their last 11 meetings against the Red Stars with five wins and six draws. Portland has won the most recent four meetings, outscoring Chicago 9-3 over that span. The Red Stars had 59% of possession last week, the most possession they have had in a single game since the start of the 2016 season.
